Environmental Policy

1. Purpose

Good Green Futures exists to inspire, enable, and support the community to reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and live more sustainably.This Environmental Policy sets out our commitment to minimising our environmental impact and ensuring that our activities align with our values of reuse, repair, and resource efficiency.

 

2. Scope

This policy applies to all Good Green Futures projects, including (but not limited to):

  • Goodbuild

  • HandyPerson Service

  • Community Workshops

  • All outreach, events, and community engagement activitiesIt covers the actions of our staff, volunteers, trustees, and contractors, as well as the expectations we set for partners and suppliers.

3. Our Environmental Commitments
3.1 Waste Reduction & Resource Use
  • Maximise reuse, repair, and refurbishment to extend product life and reduce landfill waste.

  • Source second-hand, refurbished, or sustainably produced goods wherever possible.

  • Implement waste sorting and recycling for all operational activities.

  • Avoid single-use plastics and disposable items in day-to-day operations and events.

 

3.2 Carbon Reduction
  • Prioritise low-carbon transport options for staff and volunteers (walking, cycling, public transport, EVs).

  • Encourage car-sharing and route planning to minimise unnecessary journeys.

  • Use energy-efficient lighting, heating, and equipment across our premises.

  • Seek renewable energy sources for all facilities where possible.

3.3 Sustainable Purchasing
  • Give preference to suppliers with demonstrable environmental credentials.

  • Prioritise local sourcing to support the local economy and reduce transport emissions.

  • Require all contractors and suppliers to comply with relevant environmental regulations.

3.4 Education & Community Engagement
  • Promote repair, reuse, and sustainable living through workshops, events, and outreach.

  • Share environmental knowledge with the community through our projects, social media, and resources.

  • Engage local businesses, schools, and groups in environmental action.

 

3.5 Biodiversity & Natural Environment

  • Support projects that enhance biodiversity and green spaces.

  • Avoid harmful chemicals and pesticides in any gardening or land-use activities.

  • Encourage the protection and regeneration of natural habitats.

 

4. Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Comply with all relevant environmental legislation and best practice guidelines.

  • Measure and monitor our environmental impact annually, including waste diverted from landfill, CO₂ savings, and energy use.

  • Set annual improvement targets and review performance at Board level.

  • Provide environmental awareness training for staff and volunteers.

5. Responsibilities

  • Board of Trustees: Oversee implementation and annual review of the policy.

  • Project Leads & Managers: Ensure the policy is integrated into daily operations and decision-making.

  • Staff & Volunteers: Follow the policy and suggest improvements.

  • Partners & Suppliers: Meet the environmental standards set by Good Green Futures.

6. Communication

This policy will be:

  • Published on the Good Green Futures website

  • Shared with all staff, volunteers, and contractors

  • Available on request to members of the public and stakeholders
